How Orthodontic Treatment Works

The orthodontic appliances we apply on our patients are metal, ceramic or plastic – depending on the course of treatment you decide to go with. These appliances are either glued down to your teeth, or they may be removable. They are made to apply constant, yet gentle, forces in a disciplined direction, that over time move the teeth to their proper positions.

Length of Treatment

The actual treatment time varies from each individual patient, also depending on their age, method of treatment and how severe the patient’s original case is. A big part of your treatment’s success is you! The more active and diligent you are in keeping up with your appointments and wearing orthodontic elastics (also called rubber bands), the quicker and more ideal the results. Before you begin treatment, Dr. Kivity-Chandler will discuss with you the various options and give you general estimates of the initial time-frame of how long your treatment may take.
