Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA)

JVA is a simple tool that allows Dr. Kivity-Chandler to determine the health of the jaw joints and to establish a baseline reference. It is a simple test that takes 3-5 minutes and is pain free. A headset (similar to a stereo headset) with vibration sensors is placed over the jaw joints in front of each ear. After that you will need to open and close your teeth 5-6 times. Any vibrations signatures are recorded for evaluation. Vibrations during the opening or closing of your mouth are caused by friction. A normal well-functioning jaw joint moves smoothly without vibrations. When there is a jaw joint problem, the parts rub together in a different way creating sounds or vibrations. JVA is performed as a screening tool on all of our patients. Patients with jaw joint problems often need to have those addressed first before orthodontic treatment is commenced so that they have a healthy, balanced foundation and joint positions on which to build a broad, straight and beautiful smile.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold lasers are sometimes referred to as low level lasers or soft lasers. Cold laser therapy is a relatively old technology that has been around for the last 35 years. It is a non-invasive therapy that targets acupuncture trigger points with laser photons to stimulate tissue change in damaged cells that promote healing. Research indicates, that the photons delivered by the low level laser, are absorbed by the cells, and the photons in turn stimulate the mitochondria within the cell to accelerate the production of ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate). The increased production is used to change live cells from a state of illness to a normal healthy state.

Cold laser therapy is safe and has the following biological effects:

  • Increased cell growth
  • Increased metabolic activity
  • Faster wound healing
  • Anti-inflammatory action
  • Increased vascular activity
  • Reduced fibrous tissue formation and stimulated nerve function

Cold laser therapy is widely used in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, ligament sprains, muscle strain, soft tissue injuries, tendonitis, arthritis, fibromyalgia and many more.
